Outdoor Summer Wedding in Oregon at Saffron Fields Vineyard

Summer weddings in Oregon are the perfect time of year if you’re hoping to hold your wedding or event all outdoors. While the PNW certainly has a reputation for being rainy and overcast, summertime in Oregon is actually very dry and extremely sunny.

So if you’re looking to have both your ceremony and reception outdoors, the summer months are the way to go. Not only is the weather wonderful (though it can get hot!), but locally grown blooms are in full swing and as an eco-conscious florist, I always enjoy working with seasonal, summer flowers.

This outdoor summer wedding in Oregon at Saffron Fields Vineyard was a special one. Lauren, the bride, was heavily involved in all planning and design aspects. She curated the most beautiful details for her summer wedding, paying homage to her Japanese heritage throughout the day, from the florals to the beautiful display of paper origami cranes.

A soft color palette of white, cream, blush, peach and pink is always a timeless choice and brought just enough color to this elegant wedding day.

An incredible team of vendors worked together to execute Lauren and Anthony’s vision and it was certainly a day to remember! Explore the images below to get inspired and see how this couple infused their culture and personalities into their designs.

Lush, Bloom-Heavy Bouquets with Locally Grown Summer Flowers

While various types of greenery are often found in floral designs, designs that solely focus on blooms are another popular style and one that I love creating.

The bridal bouquet was designed with all locally grown flowers and included standard roses, garden roses, dahlias, scabiosa, phlox and phalaenopsis orchids. I typically tie off bridal bouquets with hand-dyed silk ribbons in one of the colors of the main palette to add a romantic finishing touch.

Bouquet Tip: I like to remind clients and their wedding party to tilt their bouquets slightly forward when they’re holding them. This shows the flowers at their best angle. Holding them completely upright will showcase more of the stems, which are really not the bouquet’s best features. In addition, be sure to place bouquets in their vases with water to keep them hydrated throughout the day.

Large-Scale Ikebana-Inspired Outdoor Ceremony at Oregon Winery Venue, Saffron Fields Vineyard

The bride initially reached out to me and expressed her love for ikebana floral designs. For a bride with Japanese heritage, ikebana-inspired floral designs were the perfect way to pay homage to her heritage. I’ve been a fan of the art of ikebana floral arranging and these designs are becoming increasingly popular for their uniqueness and intentional minimalism.

For the wedding ceremony, taking place at the beautiful Saffron Fields Vineyard, a wedding venue located less than an hour from Portland in Oregon’s stunning Willamette Valley, we opted to do large scale ikebana-inspired designs on handmade pillars (by the bride’s father).

These stands were the perfect structure to frame the couple during their vows, without being too grand or obtrusive to the natural backdrop of Saffron Fields Vineyard.

Locally sourced wedding flowers included dahlias, roses, cosmos and foxglove.

Al Fresco Wedding Reception with Ikebana Florals at Saffron Fields Vineyard

Long banquet tables were placed together under strung bistro lighting for this outdoor wedding reception. Ghost chairs added a modern touch, as did the acrylic wedding signage and table numbers. Minimal and intentional ikebana arrangements in varying sizes adorned the length of the reception tables, staggered amidst taper candles to add another decor element that also provides a feeling of intimacy and romance.

One of my favorite details were the use of handmade ceramic vessels, made by a local Portland ceramicist. Glazed with a subtle peachy neutral tone, they fit the color palette beautifully and were the perfect vessel for ikebana designs.

And the ikebana designs continue! Even the cake was inspired by the art of ikebana, with a three-tier cake utilizing the sculptural aspect of mini orchids to create a dimensional, yet simple cake design.

Evening Portraits for a Wedding at Saffron Fields Vineyard

From start to finish, it was a joy to be a part of this outdoor summer wedding at Saffron Fields Vineyard and see the couple’s vision come to life. The evening of this special day ended in sunset portraits, a sparkler exit, and a sports car getaway!

And it looks like the bride kept her bouquet in water throughout the day, which makes me one very happy florist. Considering the day was quite warm, these end-of-the-day bouquet shots are looking great!
