God’s Thumb, Oregon Coast: Elopement Location Spotlight
There’s something special about Oregon’s landscapes and it’s no wonder why so many couples choose to elope in Oregon. A true gem for an Oregon elopement location is God’s Thumb. Located in Lincoln City, God’s Thumb is made up of a hike consisting of forests, coastal views, and an amazing field-like cliffside, making it the perfect location to elope in Oregon.
Things to Know About Elopements at God’s Thumb, Oregon
Proximity to Oregon Cities
God’s Thumb is located on the Oregon coast and is less than a couple of hours from several major cities in Oregon. If you’re thinking about eloping in Oregon at God’s Thumb, give yourself about two hours of drive time (each way) from Portland, an hour and fifteen minutes from Salem, and two hours and fifteen minutes from Eugene. In my opinion, a drive to Oregon’s rugged coastal landscape is always worth it, especially for views like these.
Hiking + Accessibility
While God’s Thumb provides incredible views and a backdrop for an Oregon coast elopement, it doesn’t come without a bit of a price. In other words, you’ll have to work for it to get these stunning views.
Consider this a bit of a workout (or perhaps a major one) before you get to the end, with several ups and downs and steep parts of the trail. Be sure to bring proper hiking shoes on this one too, especially in the rainier months in Oregon as the trail can get pretty muddy. Plan for a hike that’s a little over four miles long if you want to get all the views this beautiful Oregon coast elopement location has to offer.
Another important thing to know about God’s Thumb is that the trail goes through private property. While the owners of this property allow hikers to go through, they have the right to close the trail at any time and it’s incredibly important to follow Leave No Trace principles in this area (and all natural areas of course!)
Time of Year
While God’s Thumb can be hiked year-round, if you’re familiar with Oregon and the Oregon coast, the fall/winter months can be quite wet and chilly. Consider the mud as well when hiking this trail as it’s steep and can get slippery after rainfall. Summertime is a great season to elope on the Oregon coast as the likelihood to get sun is higher, but the temperatures on the coast stay much cooler than inland Oregon.
